We’re not suggesting you follow all the advice in Dale Carnegie’s famous self-help book, but here are some tips that can help you get out of a mental rut and meet new people at the same time.

Join a club

There are numerous social clubs that are great ways to meet fellow-minded expats. The American Women’s Club, British Ladies Club and Irish Club of Luxembourg have provided invaluable support over the years and their activities are not exclusively limited to members from those countries. Play sports

A great way to stay fit, meet people and challenge yourself is to play a team sport. Several clubs play at quite a high level in leagues in Germany and Belgium. Rugby, cricket, hockey, Gaelic sports and ice hockey are among the most popular with adults in the international community, with touch rugby, ultimate frisbee and polo enjoyed by mixed genders.

Follow your passion

If you are a keen singer, enjoy acting or other aspects of theatre, or have a passion for creative writing, then there are plenty of associations that can cater to your hobby and even help you develop your talent.

Get on social media

Social media can attract unsavoury online bullying, but there are Facebook groups out there that are positive, informative and encourage community support--the Luxembourg Expats COVID Community and The Luxembourg Daddy Group spring to mind.
