The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has accepted a settlement with Ikea Belgium. The FSMA criticised the furniture giant for failing to comply with the obligation to declare how many people were in contact with customers to offer them consumer credit.
According to the FSMA, this figure had risen from 19 to 84 between the beginning of February 2022 and 17 January 2024. “This means that more than three quarters of the employees involved in consumer credit intermediation were not mentioned in this register,” says the FSMA.
Another case concerns Fnac, where a fifth of the workforce does not have the skills required for this type of activity. The company has agreed to pay a fine of €100,000 to put an end to the proceedings.
