Unemployment in Luxembourg fell by 5.6% while employers filed more vacancies with Adem in July, bringing the number of job openings to 9,714.

Within the space of two months, unemployment in the grand duchy has fallen from almost to 5.6% in July 2021.  Year-on-year, the number of resident jobseekers fell by 15% from 19,762 to 16,807 between July 2020 and 2021. Out of the total number of job seekers, 4,437 people were signed up for an employment measure, such as training funded by Adem, 12% more than in July 2020.

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit fell by 17.3% year-on-year to 8,239 people. Non-resident job seekers also reduced by around 27% within the space of one year, Adem said in a report published on 20 August.

The decline in unemployment is supported by an increase in the number of jobs opening up.  In July, employers filed 3,481 new vacancies with Adem, an increase of 22.2% compared to July 2020. 

The total number of available positions increased by 38.7% over a one year period restoring the number of job vacancies to the same or even above the pre-crisis level with 9,714 openings compared to 7,003 openings in July 2020.
