Luxembourg law firm Bonn & Steichen Partners has announced the arrival of Javier Garcia Olmedo in its litigation department. He will strengthen the firm's arbitration and litigation practice. “We are delighted to welcome Javier to BSP's arbitration team,” said head of dispute resolution Fabio Trevisan. “With his impressive career and extensive academic experience, he will be a major asset to our international and commercial arbitration practice, and will further strengthen BSP's position in the market.”
In his new role, "he will focus on arbitration and the promotion of Luxembourg as an arbitration hub, thereby consolidating BSP's position", said the firm. This is a discipline in which the researcher is a specialist. He previously taught investment treaty law and arbitration as part of the distance LLM programme at Queen Mary University of London.
"He has also been a researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Luxembourg and has worked as an associate for several international law firms, where he has represented sovereign states and commercial entities in arbitration proceedings governed by the rules of ICSID, the PCA, UNCITRAL and the ICC," the press release stated.
Maintaining academic role
"I look forward to building on and strengthening the excellence of Bonn Steichen & Partners' dispute resolution practice. I will combine this role with my academic activities", Garcia Olmedo commented on Linkedin. Currently a researcher at the University of Luxembourg, where he will continue to work alongside private practice at BSP, he focuses mainly on the role of nationality in international law and the practice of nationality planning in international investment law.
His research also examines the interactions and links between international trade, investment and tax policies. He currently teaches public international law, conflict resolution and human rights at the University of Luxembourg.
