Tageblatt editor-in-chief and managing director of the Editpress Group Jean-Lou Siweck is set to become the new director of Luxembourg public broadcaster Radio 100,7.

A journalist by training--he holds a degree in journalism and communication from the Université Libre de Bruxelle and a master of arts in European studies from the College of Europe in Bruges--Jean-Lou Siweck began his career at the Lëtzebuerger Land as a journalist in 1998 before moving to the newly created Quotidien in 2001.

After a spell in the civil service as advisor to the prime minister from 2004 to 2013, he returned to journalism as editor-in-chief of the Luxemburger Wort, also becoming a member of publisher Saint-Paul’s board of directors. He left the paper in 2017 following disagreements with the board over the company’s editorial line. A group of Wort journalists published an open letter in his support following his departure.

After another six-month stint at the ministry of state as economic advisor, he joined Editpress with the mission of saving the company and its flagship, the Tageblatt.

On 16 September, he will take over the management of Luxembourg's public radio. His objective is to "strengthen its public service mission". Siweck aims to make "radio more attractive and allowing radio 100,7 to fully occupy its special place in the Luxembourg media landscape,” he said in a statement.

According to Véronique Faber, president of the board of directors of the Établissement de radiodiffusion socioculturelle,"Jean-Lou Siweck's professionalism and extensive experience make him the ideal candidate to ensure that radio 100,7 once again becomes a reference medium in the Luxembourg media landscape."

The station currently reaches only around 3.9% of Luxembourg’s population--or 20,400 listeners aged 15 or over daily--a into media audiences published in May said.

Siweck since last year is also the president of Luxembourg’s press council.
