Krishna Vilas restaurant is set to tantalise taste buds with a variety of Indian flavours as it opens its first ever franchise in Luxembourg. The 100% Indian and vegetarian cuisine already present in three locations in the Netherlands launches on Sunday 29 August.

The latest addition to Luxembourg’s array of cuisines offers a unique taste of traditional Indian recipes containing southern, but also northern delicacies prepared by seasoned chefs with decades of experience in the cooking style of both regions. The restaurant, which offers a unique and memorable Indian culinary experience, serves its dishes with traditional kitchen utensils imported from the asian continent and art designs sourced from directly from India. The restaurant opening scheduled for 29 August follows almost a year of planning behind the scenes and a decades-long dream of the franchise owners. It is located just a stone’s throw from the train station, offering clients traditional delicacies in an exquisite setting.

Meet the owners

The owners of Krisha Vilas Luxembourg, Sai Sumanth Pattem and his wife Sai Arpita Immaneni, are a couple working in the fund and IT industry, but driven by the same goals and love for southern Indian vegetarian cuisine.

Now a franchise owner and also a senior fund accountant, Sumanth explains that following an offer by his company to move from Australia to either Amsterdam or Luxembourg, he chose the move to Luxembourg in 2018, since it was a major financial hub. But it was his discovery of the food industry that served as a major motivation to establish the restaurant in the grand duchy.

“The minute I moved here, I found out that there is a scarcity of south Indian food,” Sumanth says, explaining the difference in Indian delicacies, which differ along the lines of the northern and southern regions.

Although Luxembourg has already been exposed to a proliferation of northern Indian cuisine owned by mostly Nepalese with the food cooked in Nepalese style, Sumanth explains that many are yet to experience “the true taste of southern Indian cuisine” and this is a mission Krishna Vilas has now taken on. “I was missing out on the authentic taste of South Indian food” says Sumanth, even if many people would not yet be able to tell the difference between traditional Indian meals. Eager to change the experience and following his several trips to the Netherlands, just to get a taste of Krishna Vilas southern Indian cuisine, it hit him “we should have this in Luxembourg too!” he adds. After several visits to the Netherlands, where the restaurant is present in Den Haag, Utrecht and Eindhoven, he eventually met the founder, who set up the restaurant back in 2018. And the rest is history.

Whats on the menu?

The 100% vegetarian Indian menu is original and identical to that of its antecedents in the Netherlands, which also offers vegan options. The menu contains almost 40 items including breakfast, lunch, or dinner, to be enjoyed at any time of the day. “For Indians, the menu will take you back home, as for Europeans and other cultures, this will be a new experience and new taste of Indian cuisine” says Sumanth.  In terms of expectations, you will also taste something different from the identical menus which are currently available across Luxembourg, Arpita adds.

Introducing the team

The 10-man staff including four seasoned cooks, who have between eight to 40 years of cooking experience have all received training from the Dutch branches. Although, the restaurant itself maintains a similar architectural set-up, colours, and style to its antecedents, the “ambiance is different” Sumanth explains as his wife Arpita highlights original kalamkari fabrics that were specially painted including the Lord Krishna design used to decorate the walls.

The restaurant is located at 63 Rue du Fort Neipperg, 2230 Luxembourg.
