Five months after the appointment of its two coordinators, non-profit organisation Kultur:LX, which is responsible for supporting and promoting Luxembourg culture--particularly abroad--celebrated its official launch on Monday.

The mission of  Kultur:LX may seem simple on paper: to promote and support Luxembourg culture. But this would be to underestimate the multiple components and the diverse and precise objectives of this non-profit organisation, which was created in the summer of 2020.

Monday’s launch was used to present upcoming projects--”needed now more than ever”-and the work already accomplished in order to promote a Luxembourg cultural scene that is "ready to amaze", as , chairwoman of the board of directors, put it.

Six artistic fields and three leitmotivs

Kultur:LX is a non-profit organisation based in Esch-sur-Alzette and is responsible for supporting and accompanying the promotion and dissemination of Luxembourg culture and creation, as well as the development of the careers and mobility of national artists, in the following six sectors:

- Architecture, design, applied arts, crafts;

- Music;

- Performing arts (dance, theatre, street arts and circus);

- Literature;

- Visual and audiovisual arts (visual arts, photography, video);

- Multimedia and digital arts.

: Diane Tobes, as national coordinator (administrative management, human resources, careers and actions in Luxembourg), and Valérie Quilez, as international coordinator, and the face of the organisation abroad, where she is strategically promoting the export of Luxembourg artists and productions.

All reaffirmed the three key values of Kultur:LX, namely multidisciplinarity, respect for ethics and transparency, as well as complementarity--in particular to certain pre-existing structures for which the association will "serve as an added value, not as a replacement".

However, in the interests of efficiency, Music:LX, which has been promoting and exporting Luxembourg's musical creation for over ten years, and Reading Luxembourg, with a similar mission for literary creation, are being absorbed into Kultur:LX. Following an ongoing recruitment process, Kultur:LX should have 13 employees by the end of autumn 2021.

As far as budget is concerned, the ministry of culture has earmarked €1,350,000 for 2021, a sum that will rise to €2,135,000 in 2022 following the redirection of existing funds and allocations for the absorbed structures. However, as of this year, "the cultural sector and artists will be able to benefit from a budget of approximately €1,100,000,” says Sam Tanson.

In addition, a new range of grants and subsidies accessible to all sectors was unveiled, and for the first time have been made accessible to non-profit organisations...

Kultur:LX in Avignon and on the web

Kultur:LX is also preparing to make a much-anticipated appearance at the 75th edition of the Avignon Festival, where Luxembourg has historically had a presence since the end of the 1990s. This includes the publication of an elegant brochure for professionals highlighting the original creations of Fábio Godinho, Jill Crovisier and Simone Mousset as well as the ten or so Luxembourg co-productions presented in Avignon as of Tuesday 6 July.
