It is the essential business directory in Luxembourg, both on the web and in print. The 2023 edition of the Paperjam + Delano Business Guide has been available since last Friday on newsstands and since today in the mailboxes of subscribers.

The index has come a long way since 1997, when it first listed the contact details of the main service and industrial companies in Luxembourg. The current edition of the Paperjam + Delano Business Guide, which is updated every year, counts 110 pages of biographies of the country's decision-makers as well as a directory of companies segmented into 10 sectors of activity--the most representative of the Luxembourg economy.

In total, 5,000 companies and around 800 biographies are accessible via this guide, published in 20,000 copies by Maison Moderne.

“The Paperjam + Delano Business Guide is the perfect illustration of the complementarity of print and digital channels: an annual printed publication that allows you to leaf through the 580 pages and discover the players who make up business in Luxembourg, combined with a high-performance website that facilitates research throughout the year,” says , founder, president and CEO of Maison Moderne.

Welcome to HRDs

Sarah Macri, managing editor of the Paperjam + Delano Business Guide at Maison Moderne, has the talent and agility to keep the biographical database as up-to-date as possible. She can rely on a proven method and experience to spot movements and other appointments in companies, but also to be informed of their life cycle, updating them on the Guide tab of the lu and lu websites.

“If I don't get the information directly, I get it from the articles of my fellow journalists. The content of the print version is a snapshot of our database at the time of printing, but it evolves all year round on the web,” she says.

The texts are in French and/or English, depending on the company’s preference. A 100% English version will be available in the next six months on the Delano.lu website. Another new feature in 2023 is the appearance of human resources managers (HRMs) in the list of the main employers in Luxembourg, which are already listed by sector of activity and by number of employees according to the nomenclature provided by national statistics office Statec.

Over 70 pages are devoted to banks, insurance companies, payment services, fintech, PFS, investment firms as well as funds and fund services.

More SMEs and associations

The financial sector takes pride of place. “Attentive readers will notice that this edition starts with the chapter devoted to the actors of the financial centre, immediately after the biographies. This is a nod to the strategic role of the financial centre for the grand duchy. Over 70 pages are devoted to banks, insurance companies, payment services, fintech, PFS, investment firms as well as funds and fund services,” Mike Koedinger points out.

On the overall volume of companies listed in the guide, Sarah Macri notes: “We have more than half of the companies in Luxembourg, but SMEs are difficult to reach, often because they have few employees or are not very visible. We would like to have more women’s biographies, more SMEs and more companies in the voluntary sector.”

The balancing figures

Each year the theme of the Paperjam + Delano Business Guide cover is different. In 2021, it was about job changes following covid-19; in 2022, about companies celebrating an important anniversary; and for 2023, the cover wants to show the balance of the different business sectors that make up the Luxembourg economy.

SMEs (UEL), the associative and cultural sectors, the MarkCom and the legal sector (Luxembourg Bar) are shown alongside the unavoidable financial and service sectors. The personalities featured on the cover are interviewed in the “Ristretto” interviews, a short and relevant format. Some of them are “new faces” who are joining this Luxembourg Who's who, made by Maison Moderne.
