The great and good of the Luxembourg film industry gathered at the Grand Théâtre on Friday 26 November to celebrate the 9th Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis awards.

The bi-annual Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis was celebrated a year late due to coronavirus restrictions, but that did not stop the local film industry from giving itself a well-deserved pat on the back on 26 November.

The ceremony, presented by Fred Neuen and Clara Hertz, was a lively affair. Indeed, Neuen, while not quite channelling the spirit of Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, held a mirror up to the local film industry with some biting wit. And, never afraid to speak out, several awards winners made strong statements about the state of the industry, the opportunities available despite wariness over the encroachment of streaming services, the plight of women in Afghanistan…

The awards themselves went pretty much according to pre-ceremony speculation with popularity winning the day in the shape of Capitani’s sweep of four prizes and Superjhemp Retörns picking up the main best Luxembourg Film award.

Before and after the ceremony, guests posed on the red carpet inside the Grand Théâtre.
