At 65, the Luxembourg Financial Markets Association is the oldest trade association in the country’s financial centre. It celebrated the landmark anniversary on the evening of 13 September at Mudam.

For the LFMA, which has around 400 individual members from more than 70 financial institutions, this was an opportunity to bring together local and international supporters as well as representatives of the financial sector.

The evening began with a welcome drink in one of the central rooms of Mudam before taking the participants to the museum auditorium to listen to a series of speakers. The introductory words of the LFMA chair, Vincenzo Giunta, were followed by a speech by the finance minister, (DP), on the present and future challenges facing the Luxembourg financial centre.

Yves Mersch, former European Central Bank executive board member and former governor of the Luxembourg Central Bank (BCL), then shared his analysis of the current market situation with the audience during a keynote speech. This speech was followed by a discussion on ‘Gender finance’ between Claudia Segre, president and founder of the Global Thinking Foundation, and , global head of people, culture and communication at Banque Internationale à Luxembourg.

The evening’s discussions  continued with a geopolitical commentary by Alastair Newton, a professional political analyst and former British diplomat.
