The German discount supermarket chain Lidl is opening two new locations in the grand duchy.

Lidl will inaugurate a new supermarket in Dudelange on 7 December and in Windhof on 14 December.

Lidl has hired 25 new employees to work at each location, bring the company’s total headcount to 430 staff across what will now be 13 supermarkets nationally, the company said on Tuesday.

The 1,249 square metre Dudelange shop is located on route de Luxembourg and has 80 parking spaces, including 2 electric car charging stations.

The 1,415 square metre Windhof shop is located on rue d’Arlon and has 108 parking spaces, including 2 electric car charging stations and a bikeshare station. “Nearly 450 solar panels have been installed” to provide renewable energy for the site, the company stated.

Lidl said that it would mark the openings by donating €50,000 to food banks run by Caritas and the Luxembourg Red Cross, as an act of solidarity.

The company opened its first supermarket in the grand duchy in 2001.
