Quintet Luxembourg has announced the appointment of Luca Derlin as head of international markets and member of the Luxembourg management committee. He will report to Quintet Luxembourg CEO .
Before joining Quintet, Derlin spent nearly 20 years at Deutsche Bank, where he served as head of international private bank in Luxembourg from 2021 to 2024. His previous roles at Deutsche Bank include positions in strategy, sales, performance management, wealth management, investment banking/capital markets and portfolio management in London, Hong Kong and New York. Derlin started his career in 1998 in Italy at McKinsey & Company, advising banking clients.
Delano caught up with Derlin ahead of the announcement to hear more about his plans for the new role, what he’s excited about and the enthusiasm he still has after 20 years in the industry.
What are you most excited for in the new role?
After many years at a large universal bank, I am excited to join Quintet, a pure-play private bank that benefits from such focus and the agility that comes with smaller size. With our decision-centre here in Luxembourg, Quintet can act swiftly to meet client needs. Responsiveness and agility are real differentiators.
I am passionate about private banking and the opportunity to serve clients across Europe (and in some cases beyond), working with our Luxembourg-based team and colleagues from elsewhere in Europe and the UK. Private banking is very much a people business, and I have had a very positive first impression about my talented Quintet colleagues.
Could you briefly outline how you plan to develop and grow Quintet’s base of high net worth international clients?
The starting point is always the client. I am convinced that if you really care about your clients, you invest the time to listen to them, to understand and deliver against their needs, and to develop with them a trust-based long-term relationship.
Sharing ‘lessons learned’ with colleagues--and learning from their experience--is very important, no matter who you are and what you do
Quintet has a very client-centric approach. As head of international markets at Quintet Luxembourg, one of my priorities is to share our service and business philosophy with those international clients (and there are many) who may not yet have been exposed to Quintet and to prove to them how much we have to offer.
What would you say is the most important thing you’re bringing with you to Quintet after 20 years of experience at Deutsche Bank?
Despite many years in the business, I have the same energy, passion and enthusiasm as when I was fresh out of university! I love working in a team, and nothing gives me more pleasure than making a client happy.
At the same time, I have the benefit of having seen and done a lot over the years, across different businesses and geographies. Sharing “lessons learned” with colleagues--and learning from their experience--is very important, no matter who you are and what you do.
Ultimately, I think that success depends on the ability to foster a positive working environment, bringing people together to develop high-performance teams where each person can deliver their best, working towards clear and common goals and with an equally clear ultimate objective: deliver value and offer a great experience to our clients.
