The Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office has announced that a search was carried out on Friday 4 October at the premises of the Council of State (Conseil d’État), as part of a judicial investigation into councillor Lucien Lux for misuse of official assets, money laundering, breach of professional secrecy and concealment of a breach of professional secrecy.

On Friday, the judicial police service carried out a search of the premises of the Council of State (Conseil d’État) as part of a judicial investigation opened on the basis of an indictment issued by the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office. The case concerns misuse of corporate assets, money laundering, breach of professional secrecy and concealment of a breach of professional secrecy.

This judicial investigation involves state councillor Lucien Lux, who is suspected of having divulged a document that was not public at the time of the events, and which fell under a requirement of professional secrecy, in the context of his activities in the institution. The search took place in the presence of a magistrate from the public prosecutor’s office and under the supervision of an investigating magistrate.

The facts date back to July 2023, when they were revealed by media outlet Reporter.lu in an article about conflicts of interest in this institution. A few hours before publication, Lux allegedly sent businessman Flavio Becca an opinion from the Conseil d’État on a bill that had not yet been voted on. According to Reporter, he used a private email address. “I made a mistake and I will apologise to the president of the Council of State,” he admitted at the time, according to Reporter. Some elected members of the Déi Lénk party then called for Lux’s resignation. He was then reprimanded for his actions.

Lux, aged 68, has been a member of the Council of State . He remains presumed innocent. A member of the LSAP, Lux was previously minister for the environment and transport (2004-2009). Paperjam was unable to reach him by telephone late on Friday afternoon. The public prosecutor’s office was also contacted and said that it would “not be communicating further for the time being.” The prosecution and defence are ongoing.
