Luxair pulled through a turbulent 2021 with an operating result of -€33.7m compared to -€159.8m in 2020, thanks to record cargo performance.

With health restrictions heavily affecting financial activity at the start of 2021 Luxair had to play catch-up but ended 2021 with a 29% increase in passengers carried (516,807) compared to . This lined up just 1% behind 2019 levels.

“Perseverance and ingenuity, these two words characterise the best Luxair throughout 2021. We kept on going while not taking any chances. 2021 was not such a bad year in the end, we filled planes, offered great memories to those seeking to escape and broke our own record at the Cargocenter, by handling over 1 million tons,” said Luxair CEO Gilles Feith.

LuxairCargo was the company’s most successful branch reaching record 1,125,000 tonnage, passing the one million mark for the first time.

With health restrictions scaled down in the warmer months of 2021 LuxairTours saw a 150% increase in sales of package tours thanks to the reopening of many hotels and the services offered by LuxairTours, including PCR tests for entry into Luxembourg.
