Luxair achieved a turnover of €806.2m, according to its 2023 annual report, released on 14 May 2024. That is an increase of 18% compared to the previous year (€683m). The airline has also quadrupled its operating profit, hitting €6.75m versus €1.53m in 2022.
On the other hand, the company’s net profit is down: “only” €116m, compared to €493m in 2022, a fall explained by the equity accounting of its stake in Cargolux.
Luxair employed 3,163 people in 2023, a third of them French and a quarter Luxembourgish.
The airline operated just under 32,000 flights in 2023, also an increase on the previous year’s 28,000. Of these, some 23,000 flights were under the “Luxair” brand, whose most popular destination was Italy, followed by France and Portugal.
LuxairTours recorded almost 190,000 more passengers than in 2022, with more than 8,700 flights. Among the most popular destinations were Spain, Italy and Tunisia.
Luxair also hit a record in 2023 by carrying more than 2.5m passengers, an increase of 22% on the previous year and surpassing pre-pandemic figures. The airline has expanded its network with new destinations such as Pescara, Ljubljana, Milan (Linate), Praia and La Palma. It now flies to 96 destinations in 33 countries.
The airline has also added to its fleet, leasing two Boeing 737-8s and putting in orders, to be delivered in late 2025, for four Embraer E2s and eight Boeing B737s.
Luxair recorded a positive consolidated operating result of €6.7m in 2023, up from 2022’s €1.5m and marking two consecutive years of positive results.
Luxair CEO Gilles Feith said: “Luxair experienced an exceptional year in 2023… this record performance for Luxair is also a highlight of our robust recovery and growth trajectory and shows that the quality offered by Luxair as a full-service carrier is well received among our customers in Luxembourg and the Greater Region.”
