On 21 July, the grand duchy’s national airline launched an inflight platform to offer audiovisual content to its passengers.

Passengers aboard four of the company’s Wi-Fi equipped Boeing aircraft only have to turn on the flight mode on their devices to connect to a platform and access films, news, sitcoms, cartoons, games and Luxair brochures for free. Featured on the platform is content for all ages and in French, German and English.

With a so-called “Bring Your Own Device” approach, the airline will be able to gradually implement the service on its other Boeing planes without having to redo the interior of the aircraft.

The platform stems from a collaboration with national television and radio broadcaster RTL, whose RTL Play platform serves as a basis for the Inflight offer. The company on popular review site Tripadvisor in the past collected remarks from customers asking for an inflight entertainment option, and received an average of 3 stars out of 5 for this part of its service.

As RTL reports, a small team of engineers were aboard a test flight connecting Luxembourg to Faro in Portugal to make sure that the system worked correctly. Passengers will need a tablet or smartphone to scan a QR code granting them access to the platform.
