The grand duchy’s capital has been named as one of the top 20 cities worldwide and the second in the EU to pursue a career in tech in a ranking published on Tuesday.

The study by Scottish skills academy CodeClan gathered data from Mercer’s Quality of Living index and ranked factors such as salary, the cost of rent but also broadband speed in the country and the number of jobs and companies in the sector.

Bern and Zurich in Switzerland topped the ranking, with the latter boasting the highest number of tech companies per capita. The remaining spots in the top 10 were dominated by US cities, including Atlanta, Washington DC, Seattle, St Louis, Pittsburgh, Miami and Minneapolis.

Copenhagen in 16th place was the first EU city in the list, followed in 17th place by Luxembourg. Amsterdam (19) and Paris (20) rounded off the top 20.

San Francisco, ranked 36th overall, boasted the highest salaries for tech employees but also one of the highest costs of living in the ranking. While Tokyo and London had the highest number of tech companies overall, they shrank to the bottom of the list when compared to the cities’ populations.

Singapore took top spot for the fasted internet connections.

Luxembourg in the World Competitiveness Yearbook published in June for ICT staff availability out of 63 countries, dropping 16 places between 2021 and this year.

More than two third of companies in the country reported difficulties recruiting ICT specialists in a separate study, the EU’s , which ranks the digital performance of member states.
