As part of an official visit to Luxembourg, representatives of the Vietnamese and Luxembourgish stock exchanges signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on sustainable finance on 12 December.

The MoU focuses on promoting and developing sustainable finance activities in the two countries, organising educational activities to improve knowledge around sustainable finance and increasing awareness around ESG standards and disclosure.

“Our team of sustainable finance experts have built unique expertise in this field and are well placed to help VNX promote and develop sustainable finance initiatives in Vietnam,” said Laetitia Hamon, head of sustainable finance at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

Last year, experts from the Luxembourg Stock Exchange provided trainings to representatives in public and private entities in Vietnam in order to build knowledge around the issuance of sustainable debt instruments.

This MoU with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange is the first such agreement entered into by the Vietnam Exchange. The Luxembourg Green Exchange features bonds and funds that clearly have green, social or sustainable aspects.

Development cooperation between Luxembourg and Vietnam started in 1993, while diplomatic relations were established in 1973. According to the European Commission, Vietnam is the grand duchy’s ninth-largest trade partner outside the EU. In 2021, Luxembourg imported €112m worth of goods from Vietnam and exported €57m worth of goods to Vietnam.
