Companies in the grand duchy increased their use of artificial intelligence and data analytics in 2020 compared to the year before, shows a PWC study.

The study indicated that 52% of companies used AI tools and services, up from 24% in 2019, with another 20% planning on implementing them soon. Luxembourg businesses implement AI to increase knowledge of customers, to foster innovation and to optimise their processes, says the survey.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been a disruptive force in Luxembourg and the world for the past 18 months. In our second edition of this survey, we asked Luxembourg’s data leaders about their own experience and developments since 2019. In this report you will see that Luxembourg’s companies have responded to the challenge with an increased and more impactful use of Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in their business,” says Thierry Kremser, Data & AI Leader of PwC Luxembourg.

Luxembourg is well positioned on a global scale regarding the adoption of AI tools, concludes the study.

Despite the jump in use of the technology, expertise remains scarce. For 58% of the companies who took part in the survey talent acquisition was the biggest hurdle, compared to 37% in 2019. Accelerating the use of AI also is a concern with only 35% of companies having a mature data and AI strategy, compared to 29% in 2019.
