Marie Kreutzer's historical drama Corsage, a Luxembourg co-production starring Vicky Krieps, on 16 October won the Best Film award at the BFI London film festival.

The film stars Vicky Krieps as Austrian empress Elisabeth, though it is far removed from the romanticism of the 1950s Sissi films starring Romy Schneider. The film follows her as she is about to turn 40.

The film was “masterfully realised” and praised for “its mesmerising and original interpretation of the life of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth,” the reports. The news site also said that the “jury was completely seduced by Vicky Krieps’s sublime performance.”

Corsage and Krieps’ performance of Elisabeth have earned the Luxembourg actress international attention, with Krieps winning the award for best performance film festival. The film is also in the running in the Best International Feature Film category at
