MPs unanimously approved a bill granting Luxembourg workers a supplemental vacation day when two public holidays fall on the same day.

Everyone working in the grand duchy will receive an additional day of paid leave to compensate for two public holidays falling on the same day this year.

There are 11 in Luxembourg. “In 2024, two of these 11 days, namely Ascension Day and Europe Day, fall on 9 May, however such a scenario [was] not expressly regulated by legal provisions,” prior to the new bill’s passage, according to a Chamber of Deputies document. Europe Day was introduced .

Under the new legislation, employees will have an extra vacation day to replace one of the public holidays, which has to be used within three months.

MPs voted 60-0 to pass the measure on Tuesday. was introduced in June 2023 by the then labour minister (LSAP). The bill’s rapporteur was (CSV).
