Several attorneys in the grand duchy are offering pro bono legal advice for Ukrainian refugees, according to , vice chairman of the Luxembourg Bar Association and partner at Elvinger Hoss Prussen.

The bar association’s commission for immigration and international protection is spearheading the effort. In recent months, its members had been actively “supporting refugees coming Afghanistan” following the US withdrawal from the country, Reckinger told Delano in an interview. “The commission is now ready to help Ukrainian refugees” in Luxembourg.

“The bar is there to help anybody coming from Ukraine” with immigration issues and any related regulatory matters, he said.

Since Ukraine “is clearly a territory in [the state of] war now, I don’t think that there will be many problem for them to get the right status while they are here. The government is well aware of everything, but [Luxembourg bar members] are there to help.”

Reckinger said that Luxembourg lawyers are also volunteering at European level through the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) in Brussels.
