The grand duchy’s military transport plane has departed, as part of the European mission to evacuate EU citizens and local staff from Afghanistan.

The Luxembourg Army’s A400M military aircraft that is taking part in a European Air Transport Command evacuation operation from Afghanistan has arrived in Pakistan.

The flight took off from Melsbroek air base, which is located on the same site as Brussels airport, on Wednesday at 4:45pm, the defence department .

“The plane is part of the Belgian detachment, responsible for evacuating citizens and eligible people from Afghanistan. The Luxembourg A400M will provide strategic passenger transport from Islamabad to Europe,” the government stated.

According to the commercial website Flightradar24.com, the plane made a stopover in Larnaca, Cyprus, before arriving in Pakistan after roughly nine and half hours of flying time.

The detachment comprises four planes and roughly 100 personnel. Teams will work from both Kabul and Islamabad airports to shuttle passengers.
