As Easter approaches, the hunt for delicious eggs produced by local chocolate and confectionery makers begins. Get your baskets ready and go!

Better safe than sorry: the Easter weekend isn’t until 7 April but it’s never too soon to stock up on chocolate! So, whether you are looking for gift ideas for young or old, take a look at Paperjam Foodzilla’s picks of some of the best eggs in town!

Don’t judge an egg by its shell at Genaveh

In their grey cardboard box and with their chalky shell, they look like regular eggs. But the shell of Genaveh’s creation (€30) flakes off, like that of a hard-boiled egg, to make way for a gourmet praline interior that comes in hazelnut and almond versions. Also not to be missed is the cockerel rabbit in a shell (€54) that contains a selection of delicious filled eggs.

You can buy them or at the shop 1 Rue Philippe II, 2340 Luxembourg

Lola Valerius for bright eggs

Colourful and shiny bites are the trademark of the Esch/Alzette chocolate maker. For Easter, Lola Valerius offers 1 cm high hand-painted eggs. Moulded in white, dark or milk chocolate, they contain caramelised almonds and hazelnuts coated with the brand’s characteristic coloured chocolate. The price is €50 per egg, regardless of the chocolate chosen.

Available for purchase or at the shop 37 Avenue de la Gare L-4130 Esch/Alzette

Namur’s kooky characters

In addition to the savoury Easter menu, Namur’s range is focused on the sweet side with a wide choice of Easter items such as rabbits and eggs. New this year, three egg-shaped characters have been added to the confectioner’s range to delight the little ones: A octopus (€32) with tentacles to die for, and Emma and Jacob (€21), a duo of pirates with sharp beaks made of milk chocolate.

Purchases can be made or in one of the seven Namur shops in Luxembourg

Oberweis’ hidden surprise

Like Willy Wonka, Jeff Oberweis had the idea of slipping three golden tickets into his exceptional eggs created for Easter. The prize is not a visit to his chocolate factory (although we wouldn’t mind!), but a pendant in the shape of an egg created by jeweller Fabienne Belnou, worth €3,300. These exceptional eggs are on sale for €145 in the Oberweis shops in the Grand-Rue, Cloche d’Or, City Concorde, Centre Commercial Kirchberg, Gare and Schifflange. Good luck!

Possible purchases or in six of the eight Oberweis outlets in Luxembourg

Chunky eggs at Chocolate House

In addition to rabbits of all sizes and flavours, chocolatier Nathalie Bonn has prepared large eggs--between 1.1 and 1.25 kg--filled with chocolates. Each beautifully decorated “big egg” is available in milk, dark and white chocolate, with or without hazelnuts. Prices range from €75.50 to €84.80 depending on the version.

Available for purchase or at the shop at 20 Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, 1728 Luxembourg

Chocolats du Cœur travels to Easter Island

Whether Picasso, Vanilla or Coffee, the Chocolats du Cœur egg is made of fairtrade chocolate. The range also includes a number of shapes including one mould that is very much in keeping with the Easter theme as it represents a moai, the emblematic statues of the famous Chilean Easter Island.

You can buy them on as well as at the shops in Bissen, Walferdange and La Belle Étoile (Bertrange)
