Local luxury store Smets has been able to set a foot in the door in London’s high-end department store Selfridges, the company announced on 8 September.

Founded in 1986, the Smets family business curates trends and designers for its customers to discover. The company has a 3000m2 flagship store in the grand duchy, alongside three other stores in the capital, a section in the Galleries Lafayette and a location in Brussels.

Smets, alongside London-based brand Machine-A for four weeks will be able to present a selection of items to Selfridges customers in their dedicated collaborative “& Good Company” space.

“Selfridges has always been a place to discover new talents and has a global presence. We feel very lucky and honoured to present our brand within The Corner Shop alongside the incredible store Machine-A,” says founding daughter Pascaline Smets in a press release.

With works by Belgian designers--selected personally by Pascaline Smets-- and its first-ever vintage offering, the brand says: “We hope the Selfridges Customer will get a glimpse of our spirit, Passion, engagement, vision, curiosity, freedom and respect.”

Selfridges buying and merchandising director Sebastian Manes also commented on the collaboration: “We are fascinated by curation and the way these founders have approached fashion; they both have such unique ways that we wanted to give them a platform to express this even further.”

Among Smets’ selection will be sculptures, candles, specialist books among other items.

Pascaline Smets took over the company from parents Carine and Thierr Smets in May 2021.
