The European Commission has just carried out its annual regularisation of national contributions from EU member states. Thanks to a better than expected performance over the last 10 years, Luxembourg is now set to contribute an extra 246.7 million euros to the EU budget.

Annual regularisation aims to guarantee fairness and equal treatment of member states on the basis of up-to-date data reflecting the actual economic performance of each country.

As part of this procedure, Statec carried out an update of economic statistics in 2021, which led to an upward review of Luxembourg's GNI over the 2010-2020 timeframe, resulting from the grand duchy’s improved economic performance during of the last decade. But this also means Luxembourg will now pay an an additional contribution of €246.7m into the EU budget.
