Daily newspaper Luxembourger Wort and weekly Portuguese language newspaper Contacto will no longer be printed in Luxembourg but in Belgium after publisher Mediahuis Luxembourg announced plans to close its Gasperich printing press.

No definitive date has been set for the closure of the Gasperich site but the building will have to be vacated by the first quarter of 2024, according to a report in Luxembourg Times, which is also published by Mediahuis.

Talks on how the 26 employees will be affected by the announced closure will begin this week but a formal redundancy plan has not been envisioned.

Belgian-based company Mediahuis took over publication of the Wort when it purchased Saint-Paul Luxembourg SA in 2020. Mediahuis owns Belgian paper De Standaard, Dutch outlets NRC Handelsblad and De Telegraaf as well as the Irish Independent, which it acquired in 2019.
