Luxexpo in Kirchberg on 10 January will re-open as a vaccination centre to help speed up the roll-out of booster shots in Luxembourg.

The exhibition and events venue first became a vaccination centre in May this year, increasing capacity by around 40,000 jabs per week.

As the vaccination campaign began to wind down, the government closed all but two vaccination centres, in Limpertsberg and Esch-Belval, but instead introduced a vaccination bus and started allowing doctor’s offices to administer shots.

With thousands of people becoming eligible to receive their booster shots over the coming weeks, the Luxexpo centre will reopen from 10 to 15 January. This could be extended depending on the delivery of more doses, the health ministry said on Monday.

Luxexpo joins the site at the hangar in Findel, which also reopened its doors for people to receive their booster shots, which are available .

Anyone in Luxembourg over the age of 18 is eligible for a booster shot, a third dose for those vaccinated with the Biontech/Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca formulas and a second dose for those who received the Johnson & Johnson inoculation.

The extra dose is administered five months after the first vaccination schedule was completed, except for recipients of two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine who are eligible after four months. For Johnson & Johnson, the waiting period is only four weeks.
