According to public radion station 100,7, current mayor of Luxembourg City Lydie Polfer will again head the DP list at the communal elections in June 2023. But Polfer herself has said no formal decision had been taken.

Though an official list has yet to be published,  is likely to run for mayor again, according to Luxembourg’s public radio station 100,7. Polfer, who has been mayor of the capital between 1982 and 1999 (when she left to become foreign and deputy prime minister), and again from 2013 to the present, last year had told her party she would not run for mayor in 2023, according to 100,7.  However, no formal public announcement was ever made despite speculation on her intentions to stand on the DP list. 

This had cleared space for current family and integration minister --who had expressed interest in the role--running for the position. Cahen has said she did not want to retain the family ministry portfolio after the parliamentary elections on October next year.

According to 100,7, Polfer had a change of heart in the past few weeks, leading to tensions within the party. In one corner is the old guard who stand by Polfer’s side and are opposed to Cahen standing for mayor, and in the other corner, those who think the DP in the capital could benefit from renewal through Cahen. 

Cahen in a previous interview with Delano’s sister publication Paperjam had about her wish to run for mayor, but had also mentioned her interest in taking up the role of

Meanwhile, Polfer told RTL that the report on 100,7 is speculation and that no formal decision about who would head the DP list had yet been made.

The party’s final list will only be made official in March 2023.
