Goldenme, co-founded by (and Johannes Heuschkel), is a not-for-profit organisation set up to combat the social isolation of the elderly through digital inclusion. Born out of the Ideation Camp at the University of Luxembourg in 2018, GoldenMe aimed to connect pre-retired and retired older people.
During the covid-19 pandemic, the organisation adapted by offering online courses. Kroth realised that digital inclusion is essential to social inclusion: "The pandemic opened our eyes to the importance of digital skills.”
Goldenme organises smartphone cafés and cybersecurity workshops to help older people become digitally independent. The courses adapt to new technologies such as AI and even fake news. "We're always trying new things to help people see the benefits of digital and to motivate them," Kroth says "The more you do and prove that new things work, the more others can do the same."
