Amazon on 6 November announced in a press release the appointment of Mariangela Marseglia as vice president of stores for Europe, succeeding Jorrit Van der Meulen. She will take up her new role in February.

E-commerce giant Amazon on 6 November 2024 announced in a the appointment of Mariangela Marseglia as vice president of stores for Europe. She succeeds Jorrit Van der Meulen, who, after more than 20 years with Amazon, has decided to leave the company to “pursue adventures outside of corporate life.”

Marseglia has 15 years of experience at Amazon, where she has led some of the company’s key business sectors, including electronics and fresh produce, most recently leading Amazon’s Italy and Spain stores. She will take up her new role when Van der Meulen leaves the company in February 2025, and will be in charge of supervising Amazon’s European online sites (Amazon.de, Amazon.es, Amazon.fr, etc.)

“I’m truly excited to take on this new European role. Under Jorrit’s leadership, we’ve accomplished so much across the region--benefiting customers, sellers, communities and employees. As I step into this new chapter, I look forward to building on what we’ve achieved as a team and helping drive Amazon’s next phase of growth in Europe,” Marseglia said on the announcement of her appointment.

Russ Grandinetti, senior vice president for international stores, said: “[Van der Meulen] has been a key leader at Amazon for the last 22 years, both in Seattle and Luxembourg. We would not be where we are without him. While I’ll miss Jorrit and his many contributions, I’m excited that Mariangela has agreed to succeed him as our VP of EU stores. I’ve worked closely with Mariangela for many years, and I’m excited to see her in this new role and learn from the perspective she’ll bring to my leadership team.”

As part of the reshuffle, Amazon has also promoted Giorgio Busnelli to country manager for Italy and Ruth Diaz to country manager for Spain. Both will report to Marseglia and will retain their current responsibilities: Busnelli will continue to oversee consumables for Europe, while Diaz will remain head of the European fashion team.
