The architect Marie Lucas has taken over the presidency of the board of directors of the Luxembourg Center for Architecture (Luca) for a three-year term, succeeding Françoise Bruck.

Marie Lucas is a well-known name in the architecture sector. She has been practising since 1984 and is now a partner and founder of M3 Architects. Since 6 June, she is the new president of the board of directors of the Luxembourg Center for Architecture (Luca) for a three-year term, renewable once, and succeeds Françoise Bruck, president until December 2021, and Pascale Kauffman, who has been president since then and remains vice-president. This appointment is a return to her roots for Marie Lucas, as she was one of the founding members of the Architecture and Engineering Foundation created in 1992.

“In accepting the invitation of the Luca board of directors to assume the presidency for the next few years, I am delighted to be back with a mature, assertive organisation which, surrounded by its partners and sponsors, and animated by the enthusiasm of a multidisciplinary group, has been able to gain autonomy and credibility,” said Lucas. “I see the Luca as a lung for reflection on what makes the quality of architecture, and the territories in which it is embedded: opening up more widely to spaces of reflection on urbanism and sustainable development, and at the same time focusing on a targeted action or a personal work.”

Among her tasks, Lucas will have to recruit the new director of this institution dedicated to architecture, a position currently held on an interim basis by Séverine Zimmer. She will also, in collaboration with the existing team, contribute to running Luca in its new premises in Clausen and attract new audiences and funders, which are essential for this organisation which is a foundation under private law.

In the board of directors, the new president will be surrounded by:

- Pascale Kauffman (vice-president), managing director, Apollo Strategists

- Guittou Muller (treasurer), G+P Muller Architects

- Claude Belche (member), director, Schroeder & Associés

- Françoise Bruck (member), associate architect, Bruck + Weckerle Architekten

- Beryl Bruck (member), advisor, ministry of culture

- Nathalie Jacoby (member), NJOY architecture inside

- Lex Faber (member), associate planner, Zeyen+Baumann

- Michelle Friederici (member), FG Architects

- Norry Schneider (member), coordinator, CELL

- Mathias Fritsch (consultant), associate architect, BBF

- Nico Steinmetz (consultant), associate architect, Steinmetzdemeyer
