Belgian towns including Bastogne and Arlon as well as Binche or Stavelot have had to cancel their 2022 carnival parades due to pandemic restrictions. The Martelange cavalcade, scheduled for Sunday 6 March, is an exception and will take place, reports La Meuse Luxembourg.
The solution was to move the Belgian carnival to Luxembourg, where the measures are not as strict. Nothing could be simpler, since the communes of Martelange and Rambrouch are neighbours, separated by the N4 and its cohort of service stations familiar to motorists who use the border road.
“We have been contacted by the organisers of the Martelange carnival, and it is with pleasure that we will welcome them,” says Antoine Rodesch (CSV), mayor of Rambrouch. “This is not a first, since a few years ago we proposed a cross-border carnival in the two communes.” The N4 was closed for the occasion.
The mayor is all the more pleased that this will not cost his constituents anything. “We will take the municipal regulations and make the premises available. The other costs will be borne by the organisers,” he says.
