McDonald's Luxembourg will open its 10th fast-food restaurant in what is an ultra-competitive market.

Two years after leaving 49 avenue de la Gare, McDonald's is returning to the shopping street in a brand new location on the corner of rue de Bonnevoie.

The 10th McDonald's restaurant in Luxembourg is due to open in a unit opposite the Etam Lingerie shop. No opening date has yet been announced, but the famous logo has been up since the beginning of this week on the building site.

Moore Food at the helm

Guy Moore's Luxembourg-based company, Moore Food, is in charge of the establishment. It currently operates nine fast-food outlets under the golden arches brand. They are located in Place d'Armes, Strassen, Foetz, Ingeldorf, Remich, Bereldange, the Kinepolis Kirchberg cinema, La Belle Étoile and the Berchem motorway service station.

Last year, Moore Food made a profit of €2.8 million, down 10% on 2019, according to its annual accounts.

The return of McDonald's to the avenue de la Gare could be as a positive sign for the shopping street that has been . The City of Luxembourg has even tried to plug the gap with the opening of a pop-up store dedicated to sneakers in place of the former Veritas shop, whose departure last year, following the failure of a rent renegotiation, was the start of a series of closures, such as that of its neighbour H&M, and then at the end of 2020.

The avenue de la Gare is already home to several fast-food outlets: Burger King opened in 2017, replacing Quick, while American chain Five Guys openeds what is so far its only location in the grand duchy in August 2018.
