“I moved to Luxembourg in 2013! I don’t consider myself an expat anymore, but happily call Luxembourg my new home! I came here to become the director of the Philharmonie and the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Before that I lived in Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Salzburg. Luxembourg is an exceptional place on all levels, combining things/people/ideas that normally don’t come together easily: it’s small but international, conservative but open-minded, capitalistic but socially minded, religious but not spiritual, community-based but not exclusionary… all of this makes the difference. I only wish the weather were better, but on the other hand this makes it the perfect place to run a concert hall!”
Meet the ten speakers of the Paperjam Club’s “Expat Rockstars” event on 19 September 2024. Up today: Stephan Gehmacher, director general of the Luxembourg Philharmonie.
