Team talk: Meet one of Delano’s newest colleagues Sonal, who joined the team in September.

You are a mechanical engineer. What are you doing in the field of journalism?

I just took the plunge. I was in the process of designing a car and all I could think of was why I am not designing a magazine. I was the editor of my college magazine and it was a truly joyful experience that gave me lasting pockets of happiness I am still carrying in life. So I went from a gear switch to a career switch. An editor who believed in me at the start of my career made all the difference. I covered politics and culture in India while working as the news editor at indiatimes and then moved onto content marketing and social media management. It’s been a ride. ( albeit in a well designed car)

You moved from India to Luxembourg. What was the change like?

I love Luxembourg. Though I struggle with French and the weather is honestly too cold for my liking for nine out of twelve months. I cannot layer up more than what I currently pile on and I freeze easily. But the unhurried pace the city offers is something I have gotten used to. I do miss India immensely, especially my lovely family and the gorgeous food( not particularly in that order) and my heart is forever tethered to my hometown. I feel at home in Luxembourg and this gives me a sense that I have the best of both worlds right now.

What do you do to unwind?

I watch Roger Federer videos. That sounds weird and I can sense the discomfort but it is what it is. I have a deep and real love for him and reading about him or rewatching his art gives me unbounded happiness. I also invited a tiny dancer into my life two years ago and this management of toddlery unwinds me like a Rolex watch.
