In a stormy context in which the unions are questioning the government’s willingness to engage in social dialogue, the Chamber of Employees (CSL) is already regretting the absence of a structural increase in the minimum wage in Luxembourg... and is rejecting the text.

In September, the unqualified gross minimum social wage was set at €2,570.93 gross and the qualified minimum social wage at €3,085.11. By way of comparison, the national statistics bureau Statec set the poverty line in 2023 at €2,265 per month for a single person. .”

“For the gross minimum wage to reach a level equivalent to 60% of the gross median wage--which corresponds to one of the references proposed in the directive--it would have to be increased by 3.1%. If, on the other hand, the national objective were to have a minimum wage sufficient to cover Statec’s reference budget and thus to lead a decent life--another measure implicitly proposed by the directive--then the net minimum wage would have to be increased by 22%, this increase being achieved if the gross wage were increased by 32.7%,” argues the CSL.
