Nearly 4,700 people signed a petition calling for free PCR tests as the number of covid related petitions increased after the controversial CovidCheck law was voted in.

demands that the government continue to offer covid-19 PCR tests free of charge even in the absence of covid symptoms and without a medical prescription. For the petition’s author Celestino Fecchi, that would help detect asymptomatic cases and would allow unvaccinated people to not be restricted.

Another petition which went well over the 4,500-threshold required for it to be debated in Parliament with 11,415 signatories, voiced its opposition to mandatory covid-19 vaccination for citizens. Others, calling for the authorisation of alternative treatments to covid or to have restrictions dropped for those who are vaccinated, have also received attention.

PCR tests, designed to detect covid, are currently something residents have to pay out of their own pocket. Exceptions are made for those not being able to get the covid vaccine due to health issues, children aged between 6 to 11 and vaccinated students who need a test to travel to their university abroad.

The will allow employers to introduce the CovidCheck system in the workplace. Luxair, for example, announced that its employees who have not been vaccinated will . Other employers demand unvaccinated people wear masks or are currently discussing how to proceed.

If the petitions garner 4,500 signatures or more before they are closed for signing, Luxembourg MPs will debate the subject in parliament.
