The Joint Social Security Centre’s (CCSS) annual report indicates a 7% increase in contributions for 2021 compared to 2020. For president Claude Seywert, the pandemic did not significantly impact operations.

Figures for 2021 show an uptick in exit declarations--515,055--compared to 454,844 in 2020. Monthly invoices went up to 93,255 in 2021 from 91,267 the previous year. In total, the CCSS calculated and invoiced €6.85bn in 2021, marking an increase of 7% compared to the contributions calculated for the previous year.

“The persistence of the pandemic, with varying degrees of outbreaks depending on the virus variant, did not significantly affect the administration's operations. The rigorous application of sanitary measures and the vaccination available on a large scale from spring 2021 onwards have allowed an increased presence of employees at the workplace and thus a certain return to normality,” said Seywert.

The CSSS director also pointed to telework as a useful tool which has been improved through “further digitalisation efforts.”

In 2021, the number of affiliated employees averaged 470,919--a slight increase of 10,203 employees compared to 2020. The number of self-employed members went up by 1.9% in 2021, reaching 28,056. Voluntarily insured persons totalled 19,799 in 2021, an increase of 6.4% compared with the previous year.
