The most-wanted criminal was arrested by the Fast Belgium team in Brussels on 11 December after a tip-off from their Luxembourg colleagues. Brussels police were able to arrest the fugitive on board a rented vehicle registered in Belgium.
Iamandi was brought before an investigating judge in Brussels on 12 December. He is suspected of attempted murder on 24 November 2020 in Remich. The victim had been injured by a handgun.
The Luxembourg investigating office has now sent the necessary documents to the Belgian judicial authorities for the surrender of Iamandi to Luxembourg.
This comes after , calling for tips that might help uncover the location of multiple criminals. Three of the wanted people--among which Iamandi--committed crimes in Luxembourg.
The EU’s law enforcement agency, together with the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (Enfast), every year launches a public campaign to get information from the public about the whereabouts of fugitive criminals.
In 2020, 16 fugitives were arrested thanks to the campaign, Europol and Enfast said. Since the EU’s Most Wanted website launched in 2016, 110 criminals have been arrested with 41 arrests directly linked to tips made through the platform.
