Energy company Creos will begin constructing a high-voltage line worth €200m from Bertrange to Aach in Germany but the exact route is uncertain and the impacted municipalities have from November to January 2023 to submit their opinion.

The 380 kV power line would run through the Alzette valley and is planned to pass through Bofferdange. Its aim is to replace the 220 kV line between Heisdorf and Trier and it is expected to be operational between 2027 and 2029.

A study on the environmental impact of the project has been carried out. Municipalities through which the line will pass are expected to file their opinion on the study. The project will need to go through the next step--a public consolation for a period of 30 days.

In 2020 energy minister (Déi Gréng) presented the plans to lawmakers, with . Electricity consumption has gone up from 1,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year in the 1970s to more than 5,000GWh today. The next generation power line will feature fewer transmission towers, with Creos saying it would be able to remove 225 pylons from the Luxembourg countryside.
