Luxembourg is a great place to discover by bike. That’s why every Saturday for the next ten weeks, Delano is giving readers a chance to share their favourite rides. First up is Dutch national Ina de Visser, who works at the EIB and has been cycling competitively since the age of 21.

Bike used

Willier Zero 9 - road bike

Favourite cycling route

Luxembourg City to Niklosbierg near Vianden and back (ca 100 km) via Heisdorf, Imbringen, Heffingen, and via the Kitzebuerhaff to Eppeldorf, Reisdorf, Hoesdorf, Longsdorf, Fouhren to Niklosbierg. Back to town via Groesteen, Brandenbourg, Gilsdorf, Ermsdorf, La Rochette, Blaschette, Heisdorf.

Level of difficulty

That depends on your level of fitness :-)

Highlights and comments

Amazing 360° views from just before Eppeldorf and from Niklosbierg, and don’t miss the Bourg Brandenbourg when you whizz down from Groesteen!

I am always amazed how there are plenty of cycling lanes that suddenly end before intersections

Why I ride

Both as a sport and to get from A to B. It has been the best way to get to know Luxembourg after I moved here!

What is missing from the cycle infrastructure in Luxembourg?

Cycling in the countryside is amazing as a lot of the smaller roads are quiet and the road surface is really good (no potholes in all of Luxembourg it seems!), but I think in most cities and towns there is room for improvement. I am always amazed how there are plenty of cycling lanes that suddenly end before intersections and it is completely unclear what the rules are, which is annoying for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers alike.
