The CinEast festival will kick off with the performance of Czech band MYDY at Melusina. Doors will open at 7:30pm and the live performance of the band will start at 9pm on Friday 7 October. Delano has festival tickets to giveaway to some lucky winners.

Abigail OkorodusIs this MYDY’s first performance in Luxembourg? If no, could you tell me about your experience when you last performed here?

MYDY: Actually, we are returning to Luxembourg – we played at the MeYouZik festival in 2014. In fact, it was one of our first international shows, so we remember being very excited about playing that gig and very satisfied after the show. We hope that people that attended back then didn’t forget (even though we changed our name from Mydy Rabycad to MYDY) and will come to say hello under the stage.

The 15th edition of the CinEast festival puts the spotlight on Czech culture. How would you describe the music scene in Czechia? And what parts of Czech culture would you say your music represents?

Czech Republic has many interesting and original acts that don’t sound like anyone else but, unfortunately, usually they don’t get much “air time” in our country radios. The good thing is these bands often play abroad. Then, there is a lot of blind following and copying western trends which sounds cool but it doesn’t bring anything new to the scene. And it’s a pity because Bohemian and Moravian (both parts of Czech Republic) traditional harmonic and melodic progressions are so wonderful. We believe we are part of the first group and our music brings some spice to the pot, especially the new one, represents Czech young blood ready to export their music abroad in a way that’s new to the listener’s ears.

For the CinEast festival opening at Melusina, can you tell us some of the songs you’d be performing and why you chose these?

We chose our dance playlist because we know people enjoy it the most at such occasions. We are gonna play for 90 minutes so you can expect a very well-built set full of energetic highs as well as dramatic twists and slow-downs. But only for a few moments, we won’t let you rest for a goddamn second, Luxembourg. We will play good ol’ schlagers such as ‘Just Dance’ or ‘Blind’ and even some of the new pieces like ‘Someone Better’ from our upcoming album ‘V’ that’s gonna be out this November.

What can participants expect during your performance?

Pretty danceable mashup full of disco music, electronica, rock, funk and swing. There are gonna be many beats to dance to and we promise there’s also gonna be a lot to see. We are kinda well-known for combining music with visual experience and the Luxembourg show won’t be any different!

What are your expectations from the Luxembourg audience? What are you looking forward to during the opening night and during your stay in Luxembourg?

We like the diversity in audiences throughout the countries but there’s a few things we want to achieve with every audience, no matter where in the world we play: just let the music flow through you, let go of all the negative emotions and dance all your brains out!

Doors will open at 7:30pm and the live performance of the band will start at 9pm. DJ Don Simon will entertain guests until 3am.

Presale tickets cost €15 and will go for €18 at the door. Delano has tickets to give away to some lucky winners.
