Goodbye Alima, hello Delhaize. Exactly two months after announcing the takeover of the two Alima shops in Bourse and Belair, Delhaize opened a new outlet on Thursday 20 February on Avenue de la Porte Neuve.
Covering 800 square metres, the supermarket will be open seven days a week, and until 9pm on Fridays. It offers a catalogue of over 8,000 products. It employs 22 people.
“Customers will be able to enjoy a pleasant, user-friendly space, where shopping becomes a pleasant and practical experience,” says the manager of the new shop, Asma Jelassi. “Our aim is to offer a wide choice of quality products, including a wide range of Delhaize’s own brand, in a welcoming environment, while guaranteeing optimum service to our customers.”
Employees retained
Last December, Delhaize Luxembourg undertook to retain “all the employees” of the two Alima shops, which were in financial difficulties and had fallen into its hands. “This continuity will ensure a smooth transition for both teams and customers, while maintaining the level of service and quality for which the two shops are renowned,” it explained. “This operation represents a significant step in the development of the Delhaize network, while respecting the heritage and proximity that characterise the two brands,” added the Belgian group.
“This acquisition allows us to strengthen our presence in Luxembourg and to welcome new talent to our teams. We are delighted to be able to continue serving customers in the Bourse and Belair districts, while preserving the spirit of proximity that is so dear to Alima,” explained Marine Carde, head of expansion at Delhaize Luxembourg, in December. The Belair shop is due to open next week.
