As spring makes a comeback to Luxembourg, a few new restaurants, bars and clubs are also blossoming. But others have unfortunately had to close. Here’s an overview of what’s new and the places to say goodbye to.

To be tested from next week

Some new concepts have been launched discreetly in the last few days or will be launched in the next few months at the latest. This is enough to set up a small test schedule for foodies when they return from their Easter holidays.

This is the case for the Gusto Naturale restaurant, a new Italian concept launched in the Foetz/Schifflange business park a short while ago, with a rather attractive business lunch and menu as well as a grocery corner and a takeaway. On our list of dishes to try are the sweetbreads cooked at a low temperature and browned in a coal oven, accompanied by grilled radicchio castelfranco, red pepper jelly and courgettes with scapece.

In the Gare district of the capital, Gringo's on the Place de Paris will give way in a few days to Casa España, a real “mini-Barrio”, little brother of the Manso Group's flagship restaurant in Kirchberg.

Another long-awaited opening is the new establishment of the De Toffol brothers, Bella Ciao, right on Place d'Armes (former Paul bakery). The name indicates a continuity with Partigiano in Rue de Strasbourg, with a special focus on cocktails. To be tested next week (the exact date is yet to be confirmed).

The new bar B51 opened its doors last week. Bisi and his team offer a friendly atmosphere, good wine and beers, shisha on the terrace and above all a good mood.

The famous Boos in Bridel is also reopening. The establishment will welcome its first customers over the Easter weekend, without any official event for the moment, but with a lot of enthusiasm from the new management.

Finally, to continue the evening, E-Space has invested heavily and recently opened its brand new club in Weiler-la-tour, with VIP tables, a vast dancefloor, a Vegas-style light show and the unstoppable DJ Kroogz as its resident DJ and all that just a few minutes’ drive from the city.

Something to watch out for

Two other openings are a little delayed, but should, if all goes well, finally see the light of day by the summer.

On the Grand-Rue, the new champagne and food bar Flûte Alors! is in its final stages and should open its doors at the end of the month. The establishment, co-managed by Vinoteca and Craft et Compagnie, will offer--in addition to an exhaustive list of champagnes from authors and great names in the Champagne region--some small dishes cooked by Hugo Maia, former creative chef of Scott's.

A few steps further down, in the pretty courtyard of the City Museum, chefs Giovanni Vaccaro and Mathieu Morvan are waiting for the last deliveries of equipment to inaugurate their brasserie L'Hêtre, the museum's new restaurant. Knowing the two professionals, you can expect fresh and seasonal cuisine which you should be able to enjoy in a few weeks time.

In Belair, another restaurant will make its comeback: La Bergamote, which will become Bonds on the pretty Place de Nancy. We still know little about the general concept, which is supposed to open in the beginning of the summer, but we have heard of a certain Philippe Ismaili is set to head up the kitchens.

In all three cases, the management of these future establishments have told us that they will be held up in their openings due to delays in the delivery of materials, one of the problems the sector has been facing for many months now.

Finally, let's not forget the long-awaited rooftop of the Royal-Hamilius, the SixSeven, whose opening is (finally?) expected for National Day... but remains to be confirmed.

Time to say goodbye

New openings go hand in hand with closures... Some places have not survived the last few months and are disappearing from the foodie circuit. This is the case for the restaurant Sana in Place d'Armes, La Belle Aventure, a few steps away, and for the Sawasdee Café, despite being a favourite of many Thai food lovers in Bonnevoie. The same fate befell the Moov club in Steinsel, which celebrated its last evenings at the beginning of April.
