On Thursday 9 January, the members of the mobility and public works committee examined bill 8442, concerning the construction of the Lycée--International School Michel Lucius, to be built in Kirchberg, in the future “Kuebebierg” residential area.

Fifty-four classrooms, 31 specialised rooms including laboratories, a makerspace (creative space), nine workshops, a library, a school restaurant and a sports complex including a swimming pool: the future site of the Lycée Michel Lucius promises to be ambitious. On Thursday 9 January, members of the committee on mobility and public works examined bill 8442, which provides for the construction of the new school in Kirchberg.

Construction could begin in autumn 2026, once all the necessary permits have been received. Estimated to cost €213m, the school could accommodate around 1,800 students by 2030.

The new campus will focus on ecological, sustainable and circular construction. Connected to the district heating plant in the future “Kuebebierg” district, the site will also be equipped with photovoltaic panels and a system for reusing waste water from the swimming pool.

Committee chair  (DP) has been appointed rapporteur for the bill, which is due to be put to the vote at the public sittings scheduled for the end of January.

The Lycée--International School Michel Lucius is currently located in Limpertsberg but is struggling to accommodate the growing number of pupils (over 1,500). Due to the lack of space, some classes have had to be moved to temporary structures.
