A new centre called “the Saxo” opened its doors on 31 January to welcome homeless people in Luxembourg-city. The establishment by the Stëmm vun der Strooss association hopes to give those without a home a warm place to rest, eat and receive free clothing.

Located at 24 rue de Hollerich, not far away from the Stëmm’s headquarters, the association explains that the Saxo’s purpose is “to relieve the long queues that form daily in front of the social restaurant at 7 rue de la Fonderie due to the pandemic and the distancing rules.”

Even prior to its opening the centre received support from various associations, such as the Catholic Women’s Action in Luxembourg (ACFL)--based in Fischbach--and the Jeunes Mamans group from Mersch. The ACFL in December 2021 had launched an appeal to donate items to provide comfort for the homeless during the harsh winter months. Thanks to the efforts of the ACFL and the Jeunes Mamans, says the Stëmm, 43 warm blankets were collected and will be distributed free of charge to people in need visiting the Saxo.

The Saxo will be lead by director Christophe Rose, who is pictured alongside Stëmm vun der Strooss director Alexandra Oxacelay thanking the ACFL representatives for their efforts.
