Ara City Radio’s Monday morning slot featured Tom Clarke and Duncan Roberts talking about the new US ambassador to Luxembourg Tom Barrett and some of the colourful previous incumbents of the diplomatic post.

Ahead of the publication of an exclusive interview with new US ambassador to Luxembourg Tom Barrett on Tuesday, Duncan Roberts joined breakfast show host Tom Clarke on the airwaves for the regular Delano’s Top of the Week segment.

Duncan explained that Barrett’s appointment made sense as he was the mayor of Milwaukee in Wisconsin, a state in which a large number of Luxembourg emigrants settled in the 19th century (and which is also home to the Luxembourg American Cultural Society's Roots and Leaves Museum).

He also outlined the priorities Barrett set out in the interview with Delano’s Natalie Gerhardstein and Cordula Schnuer which will be published on Tuesday. And talk also turned to Barrett’s predecessors like Perle Mesta, whose sojourn in the grand duchy was the subject of Irving Berlin’s Call Me Madam musical, and James Hormel the first openly gay Unites States ambassador.

Duncan then showcased three of Delano’s 10 Things To Do recommendations--published each Saturday in a Weekend newsletter--including the British Chamber of Commerce’s Brexit talk, American folk artist Sam Amidon at Gudde Wëllen and The Cinémathèque’s dance film season.

Finally, on Valentine’s Day, Duncan’s music choice was Something Like Love, a track from former Ride and Oasis guitarist Andy Bell’s new album Flicker.

Tune in again next week Monday around 8.30am on  or listen to the podcast on Delano.
