Could you imagine Christmas without a feast for you and your loved one? Neither could we. This is why it did not take us long deciding which charity to support this year. We wanted to help fight poverty and contacted the Cent Buttek, who were pleased as punch.

In a country as rich as Luxembourg where most people live in abundance, some don’t even have enough to eat. It is for them that the penny shops exist in Beggen and Bettembourg.

The “Cent Buttek” is a food bank that operates in a similar way to “Die Tafeln” in Germany. Founded in 2009 by a group of volunteers, they are supported by supermarkets, bakers, corner shops and other donators. From Monday to Saturday the volunteers collect the groceries, which are perfectly fine but unsalable in regular shops.

Once the provisions have been delivered to the Cent Buttek, they are sorted by date and prepared for distribution. Certain vegetables will be used to prepare warm soups for those who visit the shop. With the current low temperatures outside, this act of kindness is very much appreciated and surely warms more than just the hands that hold the steaming cup.

So we launched “24 days for the cent to drop” as our 2014 year-end campaign.

How did we make the cent drop? Between 1 and 24 December, we posted internal Prisma pictures on our social network pages. We offered a euro for a thought, by encouraging our clients to like, share and comment. It was lots of fun taking pictures of our office and sharing some inside information with our clients and friends.

On Christmas Eve, we’d managed to get a total of 2951 comments, likes and shares. This represents a great Christmas gift in shape and form of a €3,000 donation for the “Cent Buttek Beggen”, which was presented on Tuesday.

For a few years now, we have taken the decision to support the less fortunate in our society; instead of buying individual gifts for our clients, we donate money to a charity.

At Prisma everybody feels strongly about giving something back to society and we are happy and proud about our achievement. The simple act of generosity gives you wings as there is no better feeling than spreading joy and happiness.

If you would also like to help, you can give food such as rice and noodles and essential items like soap directly to the Cent Buttek near you. Alternatively you can also make a donation. All the information can be found on its website.

This is without a doubt the most “e-Cent-ial” gift we've ever handed out.
