It was the first conference organised by the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg, which itself launched earlier this year. Roy Suhash, president of the chamber and proprietor of the Restaurant Orchidée in Bonnevoie, says the association’s objective is “to make a direct line” between Bangladesh and Luxembourg.

Suhash cites Asian Development Bank forecasts that the Bangladeshi economy will grow at double digit levels for the next decade as just one reason Luxembourg entrepreneurs should take a deeper look at his native country.

The event, held at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, was attended by representatives of the Bangladeshi government and members of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce, as well as executives from the Grand Duchy’s aviation, banking, food and tourism sectors.

HSBC Luxembourg co-sponsored the conference because the bank “is seeking to strengthen its presence and activities in markets and businesses most relevant to global trade and capital flows,” Michele Nerantzis, its marketing and communications head, told Delano following the event. “Bangladesh is a fast-growing economy, and HSBC is positioned to pursue opportunities offered by this market.”

Officials from the South Asian nation’s civil aviation sector and Findel-based air freight carrier Cargolux had the opportunity to meet, and had--sources tell Delano--preliminary and informal discussions about beginning service between the two countries.

Up next: the Bangladeshi chamber is currently in discussions with the Luxembourg chamber and the ministries of trade and tourism to organise an official business development mission from the Grand Duchy to Bangladeshi in the summer. Suhash hopes to announce such plans “in the coming days.”
